I participated in the workshop on SPIRE 2009 Workshop on task-based information access organised by Anni Järvelin in conjunction with SPIRE 2009 in Saariselkä, Lapland. As has become my habit this sort of context, I argued for the notion of use cases for the purposes of design and evaluation of interactive information access systems. The other presentations at the workshop were more closely related to the topic of the workshop itself and presented several separate task orientations. The discussion centered on how to generalise from those presentations, from the anecdotal to the informed.
